Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in Sachse public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Rising employee health insurance costs
The city's medical insurance is jumping 32.5% overall — about $603,000 more from the city — driven by a 125% loss ratio. Plan designs changed and employee contributions shift, with the HSA plan the only one not costing employees more. A spousal surcharge is coming in 2028.
Bond 2027 Committee appointments
Seven residents from existing boards and commissions were appointed to recommend possible projects for a May 2027 bond election. Millsap argued the restriction shuts out fresh taxpayer voices; Prestenberg countered anyone can join a board and committee meetings will be public.
2026 Property Tax Rate Levy
A resident flagged that tax appraisals are up again and pushed the council to name a target tax rate now rather than in August, and to explain what residents are getting for the $10 million spent on Fifth Street.
Certificates of obligation for Merritt Road and Service Center
The Merritt Road realignment and widening project grew by $7 million, funded by 2026 certificates of obligation the council already approved selling.
Sachse PID No. 1 annual maintenance assessments
Property owners in The Station pay a yearly assessment to maintain the subdivision's improvements. Residents objected at the hearing, some saying they didn't understand what the fee covered, but the Council adopted the assessment 5-1.
