Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in Sachse public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Blackburn/Ingram Road four-lane vs. two-lane
The most contentious road project: a four-lane widening estimated at $38 million that requires buying 19 houses (option 1) or 11 houses plus rebuilding screening walls (option 2), versus roughly $20 million to simply rebuild the existing two-lane road without adding capacity. Committee members flagged recently built homes in the take line and questioned whether widening a short stretch is worth the cost.
Pleasant Valley Road extension
About $19 million for 5,300 feet of paving south of PGBT to support existing and future industrial development near the SL 6/PGT area — but members noted the road runs to the Garland city line and questioned whether it helps Garland more than Sachse, and whether it's 'build it and they will come' spending.
West Creek Lane and Woodbridge Parkway reconstruction
Staff proposed a $12.2 million full rebuild of Woodbridge Parkway, but PACER pavement scores show most of the road rated 1 or 2 (good condition). Committee members pushed back hard, leaning instead toward folding a smaller repair amount into the neighborhood streets package.
Neighborhood streets package
A resident begged the council to put the Cornwall/Sachse Estates area streets — deteriorating since 2022 — into the 2027 bond, and questioned why the published bond list didn't include them.
Sachse Road Phase 4 bridge — Wylie cost split
About $11.3 million for Sachse's half of a bridge and 1,500 feet of four-lane road at the city limits, with Wylie as a funding partner through its own bond package. Details like who actually builds the bridge still need an interlocal agreement.
Industrial Drive reconstruction design
The badly failing industrial park road will be rebuilt, but the two design options split the council: the standard design removes on-street parking businesses use, while the business-friendly option violates the city's design manual and costs about $200,000 more. Direction moved toward the standard design, with debate about whether industrial areas deserve their own standards.
Road project cost and city responsiveness concerns
A frequent public commenter says a local road project is years late and millions over budget, and accused staff of dodging his questions on the insurance fund balance and speed humps. He also criticized the plan to cancel the October meeting.
Williford Road construction timeline
The Council authorized a $6.1 million construction contract with McMahon Contracting LP to rebuild Williford Road — a major road project for drivers who use that corridor.
Old Ben Davis Road construction contract
The city awarded a construction contract of up to $378,150 to Vlex Construction for the Old Ben Davis Road project. Residents driving that corridor should see road work begin under project R-25-02.
Collin County interlocal for road improvements
The council approved the terms of a cooperation agreement with Collin County to help fund road improvements.
Pedestrian safety study for The Station
A new traffic study found 87 crashes over three years — including a fatality — and recommended lower speed limits, new all-way stops, and better crosswalks in The Station. The Council acted on the speed limits and is funding the rest through the regular budget. Residents who live there said the changes may mean they no longer feel they need to move.
Merritt Road project timeline
The 1.5-mile Merritt Road project has its right-of-way, archaeology, and plans done, but waits on FEMA, the Corps of Engineers, and utility relocations. Construction bids are expected in fall 2026, and the final cost won't be known until bids come in.
